Toddler Boy Bedroom at the Lake House (Forrest’s New Room)

Hi friends! Courtney (Melissa’s daughter) here. I’m happy to be on the blog today sharing a little tour of my son Forrest’s bedroom at our new house (the Lake House!).

Last month we moved into our new home (and my parents-in-law moved with us into the lower level MIL suite! I shared more about that here). We’ve been enjoying it so much and are having fun as we start to make it our own.

One of the first rooms we decided to personalize was Forrest’s room. It has a lovely view and a great amount of space, and we were excited to give it a fresh new look!

Here is where we started:

The before: A dark brown wall, brown floral curtains, medium blue walls with brown painted bamboo on an accent wall.

Gingham mini chair // Cane Montessori bookshelf

Here it is now! I can’t believe how much lighter and cheerier it got in here just by painting the walls (Misty by Sherwin Williams) and swapping out the curtains. The ceiling light still remains for now…home takes time, right?. 🙂

It’s so sweet to imagine this room once being a beloved kids’ space for the family who lived here before us. I even noticed little marks on the ceiling that were probably from glow-in-the-dark stars, just like the ones I had in my room as a child. It warmed my heart. Now it feels extra special to be creating a childhood bedroom for my own son to grow up in. I hope it’s a room he’ll remember forever!

Throughout this post, you’ll spot many of the same pieces from Forrest’s nursery in our old house (the townhouse we rented before buying this home!).

You’ll also see some new additions that make this space feel like such a ‘grown-up’ toddler room including:

I’ve linked all other sources at the end of this post!

Forrest’s first table and chairs! He uses this table every day already and I know it will be well used for years to come. I look forward to him having playdates here–I can just imagine two little ones sitting together coloring or sharing snacks!

This set is really sturdy and well made, I highly recommend if you’re looking for something like it. I love that one of the chairs is a giraffe and one is an elephant!

I’ve had this house shaped shelf on the top right for years–I’m asked about it all the time, so I was so excited to find this similar house shelf! I hung both together to make this a little “animal house” corner. It’s a sweet spot to display some of his favorite treasures and he has a lot of fun playing with the one that’s within his reach. He was delighted when we hung them!

This gingham mini chair is the cutest ever. You can often find Forrest plopping himself down here to “read”. The chair comes in other fabric options and another chair shape here, too.

(Also, why does chair this make him look so grown up!!!! Ah!)

It’s been so nice to have this Montessori bookshelf to display some of his favorite books! He enjoys having these right at his level to pick out different ones to read each day. I was smitten by the cane detailing and am really impressed by the quality, too.

The little carved wood stool was in my room as a child–so nostalgic and special to have in here!

Too Many Hopkins Book // Stacking Cups
Blanket // Crib Sheet

This crib sheet and blanket were love at first sight. I love all the whimsical little details to look at!

Pom Pom Low Basket

These pom pom baskets have been so great for grouping together different items in here. I like the idea of rotating toys and switching out what’s in this low basket from time to time–for now it’s holding a musical instrument set! This low basket would also be a nice size for storage under the crib. We have a matching hamper for more toys, and a little bin for diapers and wipes.

The elephant canvas is a painting that my parents-in-law had in our garage, and I didn’t even realize until after we hung it that it was painted by my sister-in-law! So special that we can tell Forrest his aunt painted it, and it fits so nicely in his room.

Can you tell he feels proud to be in his big boy chair? Ha!

The mirror was here when we moved in and it’s floor length, but I just set this console in front of it for now. I love having the mirror here since you can see the lake in the reflection, and I’m thinking we could add some sort of cool wood frame around it eventually! (Also the angled wall hooks on the left were there when we moved in too…a bit more of an “artsy” choice than I’d normally do haha 🙂 so that will change eventually too!).

The little Beatrix Potter 3d wall plate by the closet door was also in my childhood bedroom!

Coastal Shirt // Pants

By the way, if you’re looking for absolutely adorable, giftable clothing and nursery pieces for little ones, I can’t recommend Pehr enough. Their designs are full of the sweetest prints, softest fabrics, and timeless styles that feel special for everyday wear and perfect for gifting. They’re great quality–the kind of things you’ll want to keep for future little ones or pass down as keepsakes!
