Advice for cramped city apartment living room

I need help rearranging the furniture in my living room so that it doesn't feel so cramped. In the current layout, the area around the dining table feels so cramped that I never sit there. The desk also takes up a disproportionate amount of space based on how much time I spend there.

My ideal layout would involve a dining table with room to move around it and a desk that is not against a wall.

Here are a few important points that I could not show on the diagram:

  • I rent the apartment so I cannot make major changes. The A/C units cannot be moved.
  • I can buy / sell pieces of furniture to create new possibilities.
  • There are blinds installed but they're a pain to open and close. I can't replace them unfortunately.
  • I prefer not to move the desk to the bedroom.
  • The kitchen is tiny with no room for a table.
  • I would like to comfortably seat at least two but ideally four people at the dining table.

Here are some things I've thought about:

  • I've thought about putting the desk against the windows on the left / top left but those windows face east and south. I think the sunlight on the monitors would be too much.
  • One idea I have is to repurpose the "Dining table" as a desk. I don't know where the desk could go while leaving room for a dining table.
  • I've thought about rotating the desk and putting it against the couch but I need advice to know if this would disrupt the visual flow of the room. I would also need to get a smaller bookshelf to create space for that.
  • I used to have a smaller, round table where the current "Dining table" is.
