An interesting lamp can take a room to the next level, just like a great pair of earrings elevates an outfit.
If you want to find something a little different from the stock at your local home store, you’re sure to love this super-fast lamp hack from Athena @_artslee.
Athena uses the KÄLLARHALS vase, an IKEA classic, to make a beehive-inspired lamp that’s super cute and stylish. Even better? It takes less than a minute. Really.
The KÄLLARHALS vase is one of many nostalgic IKEA pieces that’s coming around the bend again with a snazzy new name. When the vibrant vase first came on the scene in 1995, it was known as the SNURRA.
But no matter what you call it, the eye-catching style remains the same, and it’s just as fetching as a lamp.
What You’ll Need
- KÄLLARHALS yellow vase (8 ¾”)
- SKALLRAN table lamp base (or similar)
- SOLHETTA LED bulb E27, 470 lumen in globe opal white (or similar)
Turn a Vase Into a Beehive Lamp Within Seconds
1. Set Up the Base and Bulb
Plug in the lamp base and install the bulb. Athena used other IKEA products, including the SKALLRAN lamp base (not available from IKEA US), but any similar piece will work.
For reference, the measurements of the base are approximately 4 inches tall, with a base diameter of about 5 ½”. The main thing to pay attention to is that the height allows enough clearance so the vase doesn’t rest directly on the bulb.
2. Add the Vase
Flip the vase upside-down and put it over the base. That’s it!
We Love a Hot Hack, but Not Too Hot!
Several commenters pointed out concerns about the upside-down vase on top of the bulb. They worried it didn’t leave a lot of room for heat to escape.
But since LEDs don’t get hot, and Athena kept the wattage low anyway, she didn’t have any issues. Therefore, if you opt to use a different bulb, make sure it’s an LED if you want to avoid any unwanted sizzle.
How Much Does This Hack Cost?
You could expect to pay about $36 to $41 for this hack, unless you already happen to have some of the products. The KÄLLARHALS vase costs $23. The SOLHETTA bulbs are $2.99 for a two-pack, and you can get a lamp base for between $10 and $15.
Don’t Need a Vase? Make It a Lamp!
Turning an IKEA vase into a lamp isn’t a new concept, but it’s certainly an extremely popular one. Many hacks feature all sorts of ways to pull off this switcheroo. You can even convert vases into pendants or create a accent light fixture.
What do you think? Would this cute lamp fit your home’s style, or do you have another idea up your sleeve?
Make sure to share your hacks with us so we can ooh and aah over your awesomeness and possibly feature you in an upcoming post!
