The developers of Bazzite, a gaming-focused Linux distribution based on Fedora, have announced a major fall 2025 release. It rebases Bazzite to the newly released Fedora 43 and adds support for a few new gaming handhelds and other peripherals.
If you’ve been wanting to install Bazzite on your handheld PC but it wasn’t fully supported yet, your time might be here. This update to Bazzite adds full support for the following devices:
Bazzite developers noted there are minor issues to be aware of with most of these. For example, Bazzite on the Legion Go 2 still doesn’t have HDR PQ support. There are also issues with the Xbox Ally X’s speakers when turned to maximum volume, which the Bazzite team says they’re still working to resolve. So while all of these devices have general support, be sure to review the release notes to track what small issues you might encounter.
Speaking of hardware, this release also ushers in support for some racing sim steering wheels. Bazzite now has drivers (!) for Logitech, FANATEC, and Thrustmaster racing wheels. They recommend installing Oversteer to manage your racing wheel if you’ll be testing out this support.
This update to Bazzite also brings the gaming distro up to the bleeding edge with Fedora 43, which is itself freshly out of beta as of this week. The new base means Bazzite has been graced with GNOME 49, which brings improvements to HDR controls, a new video player, and a few other improvements that might interest Linux gamers. For GNOME detractors such as myself, KDE Plasma is being updated to 6.4.5, though the devs noted that Plasma 6.5 is coming as soon as some extra bugs are squashed.
Other updates include some minor features going away, like dedicated images for ASUS and Surface devices. Bazzite devs also noted that while support for certain older NVIDIA GTX graphics cards was up for removal, the team ultimately decided to keep maintaining them. The idea is in part to make sure folks replacing Windows 10 with Bazzite don’t find their GPU unsupported.
Bazzite has been gaining popularity over the past year, so it’s exciting to see a new release like this with a (mostly) expanding range of supported hardware. I had a blast installing Bazzite on a mini PC and turning it into a living room console, so I’m all for Bazzite’s advancement.
