Interview with J. M. Unrue, Author of Monthollow

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Monthollow?

It’s a fable. I read a lot of fables as a kid. It’s about twin sons vying to be heir to the throne in this kingdom. Like Avalon without all the blood.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Biographical History. My favorite thing to write is satire.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I’m rereading King’s short stories, I passed over many initially. I’m going all the way back.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The medieval snow day.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I work on my reclining loveseat in the basement.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Yet. It hasn’t happened yet. Every writer knows what this means.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Losing oneself in a story is always worth it.
