Mark Zuckerberg has officially become one of Hawaii’s biggest landowners. The Meta CEO and multi-billionaire quietly expanded his real estate empire on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, reportedly adding roughly 1,000 acres of ranch land to the property earlier this year. New documents and sources close to the deal revealed to Wired that Zuckerberg’s recent upgrades were priced at more than $65 million and were made through a “Hawaiian-sounding LLC.” The Facebook co-founder now owns more than 2,300 acres of land in Kauai, pushing the value of his massive estate to $300 million.
Zuckerberg first snapped up 700 acres of land at $100 million near the town of Kilauea in 2014. Since then, the tech mogul’s top-secret estate, known as Ko’olau Ranch, has been transformed into an elaborate, resort-like escape at the edge of the island’s North Shore. So far, Zuckerberg’s secluded compound hosts two mansions, a gym, a tennis court, several guesthouses and treehouses, and its own water and energy systems. A tunnel runs beneath the property that leads to a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter equipped with blast-resistant doors and an escape hatch.
Per Wired, new permits reveal that Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, plan to build three more structures on the property ranging from 7,800 to 11,000 square feet that will serve “short-term guest accommodations” for family, friends, and staff. Two of those reportedly dorm-like buildings will be packed with 16 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. The spaces are slated to share a 1,300-square-foot lanai. Each building is projected to cost between $3.5 and $4 million and will come equipped with high-level security cameras, keypad locks, and motion detectors.

Zuckerberg’s latest reported expansion doesn’t come without its fair share of concern for the billionaire’s growing presence in Hawaii, where his private estate nearly exceeds the $311 million annual operating budget for the entire island of Kauai. Part of Zuckerberg’s Kauai compound also sits atop a burial ground. The state confirmed there’s a “high probability” of more remains nearby. According to Zuckerberg’s team and representative Brandi Hoffine Barr, the existing burial plot is fenced off and maintained, and workers on site are said to be required to report any discoveries of ancestral bones on the property.
